In a revealing interview on the Nik Nocturnal Podcast, Tatiana Shmayluk, the powerhouse vocalist of Ukrainian progressive metal band Jinjer, dropped hints about potential solo projects while discussing the band's upcoming album and musical evolution.
Shmayluk surprised fans by expressing interest in exploring genres outside of Jinjer's progressive metal sound. "Lately we've been thinking of going solo as a side project," she revealed. "I don't know what to pick. I mean what genre or sub-genre. Maybe just go like completely disco." She also mentioned a desire to create a hardcore album, showcasing her diverse musical interests.
These potential solo ventures would allow Shmayluk to explore her creativity without the constraints of genre expectations. "I would go like solo without being all judged by metalheads," she explained, hinting at the freedom such projects could offer.
Meanwhile, Jinjer is set to release their highly anticipated new album in early 2025. "Let's make the first thing clear," Tatiana explained, "Winter 2025 is from January 1st till the last day of February." This clarification comes after some confusion among fans about the release date.
The band recently released two singles, "Someone's Daughter" and "Rogue," giving fans a taste of what's to come. Tatiana revealed that these tracks are just the tip of the iceberg: "You haven't heard even like 1% of the album. The rest of the songs are not even close to sounding like djent or something."
Addressing criticism from fans who yearn for the sound of their breakthrough album "King of Everything," Tatiana was candid: "That was 10 years ago. People who don't change, as well as musicians who don't change, they are stupid. How can I be? I was 26. I changed like every single day."
The vocalist also shared insights into the band's creative process, particularly the challenges she faces with their progressive style: "My mindset is not that progressive. I like everything to be like 1, 2, 3, 4. The more structured, the more framed, and the more classic it is music-wise, the more I can be creative around it."
Looking ahead, Jinjer is gearing up for a North American tour to support their upcoming album. Fans can expect a diverse setlist showcasing the band's evolution and their commitment to pushing musical boundaries.
As Jinjer continues to solidify their place in the global metal scene, Tatiana Shmayluk's hints at solo projects in disco and hardcore genres add an intriguing dimension to her artistic journey. Whether through Jinjer or potential solo ventures, Shmayluk continues to prove that embracing musical diversity and change is key to artistic growth in the music industry.
